Philosophy

Integrative Healing Arts had its beginning in January 1984, when Dr. Lawrence Chan and Dr. Eric Posen came together to set up a joint chiropractic practice. Within four months, Dr. Hal Brown completed the partnership. “We are all graduates of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto; Dr. Posen in 1978, Dr. Chan in 1982, and Dr. Brown in 1977.

We had all been practicing as chiropractors in different locations, and recognized an affinity in perspective and philosophy in styles of practice. We shared a vision, a belief, and goals toward healing, and felt we could be mutually supportive.

As we practiced, we also pursued postgraduate studies in Naturopathic medicine. In 1989, we graduated with degrees in Naturopathic Medicine (N.D.) from the Ontario College of Naturopathic Medicine, as well as completing the clinical competency examination set by the Shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture. Soon after qualifying for B.C. licensure, in March 1992 we collectively changed our licenses to be able to practice as Naturopathic Physicians. Within this profession we are able to broaden our scope of practice and fulfill our mutual vision.

Others Join our group!

Over the last few years, we have invited several practitioners to join our group. Along with naturopathic care we also offer chiropractic, massage therapy and Rolfing, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, nutritional consultation, weight management programs and Vega testing. The Rejuveness System (non-surgical face lift) is also available, as are laboratory and dispensary services.

Our Name

The clinic name encompasses our philosophies. Integrative is translated in Webster’s as "direction toward integration". In a sense, movement toward integration is never complete; it is an ongoing process, for as we heal and grow we are challenged to expand our capacity for learning, understanding, and acceptance. We bring together many healing skills and sciences, but the effective application of these is very much an art. Hence the name "Integrative Healing Arts".

Our Symbol

As a logo we have chosen to use the Traditional Tibetan symbol of the endless knot, which represents the interwoven and interconnected nature of all phenomena. This symbolizes our attempts to understand and influence the human condition in all its related dimensions.
